(13th page in) Gramma says "You see, My daughter already abandoned him once..."   Now while that COULD mean that she left him with Granny and 'disappeared', it could also mean that she commited suicide or something of the like.

 

It's also "My daughter" so seeing below suggesting that Mu-kun is her son's son, seem incorrect.

Mind you, translation can twist it a bit, so I'd have to show you the raws to get a better idea I think.  I mean if its that important.  (yea, I'd love to know myself)

I initially did a double take seeing both an alter for each parent.  Mind you, first thought that came to mind, maybe it was such a issue inside the family she considers her own daughter dead to her.  But Granny doesn't seem like the type from what we've SEEN.

Problem solved: the line in chapter 26 says "my daughter AND HER HUSBAND (literally "my daughter-married-couple" but that's Japanese kanji construction for you) left him alone." In other words, she's saying they both died and left him an orphan. Nobody actually abandoned anyone.

Chapter 33, page 10: That's a memorial altar. Whatever the story behind the mother's life may be, the indication is that she's as dead as his father. I need to read the raws of chapter 25 (26?) to know for sure what exactly granny Souma meant by "abandoned."

If I remember, his father died, but it was at least insinuated that his mother "left him" as in not willing to stick around. Whether it was from grief of losing the father, or what... granny did have something to say about it if memory served. It was when they went to visit her...

For sxure, I was lazy to look it up, but I thought something about a crash.   That's sad that his mother just left him.  I believe granny is his father's mother since she mentions "Souma" I'm assuming that's his father's name, which would mean the grandma's also if she is his mother.

It's because she's not related to the Ashitaba family, she's Mu-kun's grandmother.

If she were a man, she would have Mu-kun's massive pole.
