especially the girl. She is beyond naive and indecisive: she actually knows nothing, compromises with nothing and can't develop a will of her own. The man is, actually, pretty indecisive himself, and takes actions that I can only call abusive, while other actions are stupid or reckless.

It is a purely dog eat dog war between humans and the oni. It's true that it's no different from the way humans can voraciously devour every other species on the planet but the difference is also in the cognitive abilities that set humans (and kimon) apart from animals thus the consciousness of being a possible prey for life is so frightening at the hands of the kimon who have no fear of being a prey but simply the confidence of being a predator for life. In fact, the superior race will then be the kimon and as a result, the humans will inevitably be enslaved again by the kimon. The only way for this to be harmonious in any way is for the humans to resume ignorance in a more rustic state of civilzation where science doesn't exist and the intellect of humanity is limited. The reason for that is because the world is so structured around a hierarchy (food chain) that if humanity is not forced into a status below that of the kimon, humanity will inevitably war with the kimon in a cyclical manner. There is no harmony, there is simply a necessity to prevent the death of the earth that is caused by the destructive manner of human unconcern...in that way, it's true that the kimon are useful. What they say towards the end is true, the kimon woke up too early. Takao has been patient for so long. it's quite idiotic of him. All I can truly say is that Takao, the mastermind of all this has caused all this unnecessary dread. Just watch over humanity until it is time for the necessary existence of the kimon.

For me it's more easy to distinguish why it isn't modern shoujo like there exists the usual originality of classics in that it does not focus on the school life of a teenager and revolves on a larger purpose than love. It is a "otherworldly" feel which is more usual of classic shoujo since it revolves around a world that is "otherworldy" and there is no happy go lucky dimwittedness more typical of modern shoujo. Plus there is the obviously more classic shoujo art without superficial lines that make the art more "gaudy" in a sense that is more typical of modern shoujo.
