Swore never to read Shiraishi Yuki's work again.
Then recently I randomly stumbled upon "Bokura no Himitsu wo Kyouyuu Shiyou ka" and I liked most of the oneshots in there. Turns out it was by Shiraishi Yuki!
Who would have guessed it? She seems to be trying out different types of characters, storytelling styles and even some of the stories' atmospheres are varied.
So I decided to give Shiraishi another try. I figure there'll be a lot of stuff from her I'll dislike, but might find a few hidden gems in her vast manga collection.
Her art is detailed and character designs can look nice depending on how she draws them and which time period/manga they're from. She seems to have more variations on how she draws her characters from what I've seen so far and I like that.
Anyway back to this oneshot collection which is from her debut era.
Definitely remembered reading this before, and this time around still don't like it.
I can see how new she is from this collection, and this follows the more streamline shoujo romance style.
The main reason I dislike this is that the male MC is an ass. There's no reason for him to boss her around if he likes her.
Sure, he can be aloof/cold towards her because he's not sure how she feels. he puts up a wall/front so he doesn't get hurt/put some distance between them.
But why would he treat the person he likes like a servant? Why would someone purposely make the person they like, hate them back, by treating them poorly?
This kind of logic doesn't make sense to me. Even if such people exist, Why would anyone do that? they have to be a mean spirited person to begin with then.
I agree with the other comments. The only story worth reading is he last one.
Also, the art styles are quite different from story to story.
Skip the first few stories.
me too and enjoyed the third story ^^
dont really like it.
Second story: The main guy behaves like a jerk but he isnt. I think its acceptable.
Third story: I think its the best of the three.
