The downfall of a kingdom due to the blindness of its leader trying to reach its dream. Nothing new.
What about the historical figures who fought against slavery and injustices to bring forth the ends to past atrocities of humanity which we currently enjoy? We have social and legal progress, sometimes at the hands of activists instead of shady politicians. And the very rare but existing non shady politician activists. Those people are good. Take a look at Mr Mujica, poorest president of the world, for instance. He's a good and he's done a lot of good. Ambition and selfishness don't need to come hand in hand.
There isn't, obviously. But, there are something one must consider also when judging an individual: the standards of the time that the individual lived in. There are certain ways of things or activities which were more acceptable or less acceptable than they are currently, so judging them with current beliefs and views would be automatically biased. For example, most of us would consider slavery wrong and what could be an evil act. Yet, simply owning or using slaves did not mean that the person was bad. Slavery was actually very common for a long period of time in human history, and still exists in different forms in some areas. Nowadays, we would have issues with slave owners, but a few centuries ago, that would have been a much different story.
One has to be careful as to how one judges due to the biases that one has from their own cultures values which automatically help form what one considers good or evil.
So what historical figures can you point to that are "good"? I don't know of any in all of history. They've all killed and taken slaves and exploited others.

This hasn't been updated for awhile. I've caught up to chapter 120, reading most of that in the past couple of days, should be caught up fully by tomorrow. I think I might like this better than Magi, which looks like it might end before this one.
