Not bad as far as horror mangas go, but I'm puzzled by the author's choice of using Aztecan mythology as the source of the horror and supernatural.
Still, I had a look and there are some scholars who argue that the Aztecs sacrificed living humans to cannibalize the corpses, though it's a weak theory that has lots of holes in it (the counselor mentions this to MC at some point).
Wtf did I just read
i'm sure this is a good manga and all but i cannot look at that title without reading "GOOO"
Oh, yes, label me a hater and just leave it at that rather than actually addressing my criticism. Had you done the latter you’d realize that what I was asking for was not so much a “scientific explanation” but rather any explanation at all! To fail to ever explain to your readers how the fantasy aspects of your fictional world work is abysmally (see what I did there?) poor writing.
There's a significant amount of bullshit you're going to have to swallow if you're interested in reading this.
a manga without a beginning nor an end... 1/5 too bad we can't rate 0/5
Thank you Decadent Descent Scans for bringing this to an end!! Personally I waited for years and never thought that I would see this manga finished, so thank you again. I did like the end although it felt rushed. Btw. thank you lazy ass for starting it.
Gentlemen!
My dissatisfaction with this manga is not hyperbolic, it is absolutely appropriate. Just because you do not happen to agree with my personal appraisal of its flaws it does not follow that said evaluation is somehow objectively wrong in any shape or form. Matters of taste are neither absolute nor universal ... unless I missed the news about your ground-breaking approach to a system of normative value judgments that proves otherwise.
Next time maybe tone it down a bit and preface your statements of opinion with qualifiers like “In my view” or “I for one feel that”, mh? That tends to prevent these sort of misunderstandings (that is, giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming I misjudged you and you are actually aware of the limitations of your own assessment).
That escalated quickly.
I have this weird feeling of confusion and relief after reading the ending.
Holy crap I never thought I'd see the ending.
And that is how Bermuda triangles are born.
People dive way too deep, a dark monster(s) awakens, then the Aztec gods are summoned to contain it, the project fails, and whatever that was continues to do its thing with whoever gets near it, but this time its sphere of influence affects the surface too.
Moloch while is true that this manga could be better, your dissatisfaction is as hyperbolic as the overpraise that the other guys are given to this short story. This thing is around a 7+- out of 10 the atmosphere created gets in conflict with the lack of explanation, and the rushed ones (Aztec gods increasing insanity, the test suit Hadal-1, etc).
THE END?
Like in is it truly THE END? Even after all this crazy shit? Nah...but there will be no sequel.
LONG LIVE ENGIES.
I’m saying this is nowhere near Lovecraft, neither in terms of similarity nor in those of quality. See, “Lovecraftian” refers to settings with evil eldritch creatures from beyond the stars, other dimensions and so on, not some shitty bogeymonsters from hell summoned by devil worshippers.
This manga doesn’t deal with the kind of all-encompassing terror caused by monstrous, madness-inducing deities that predate mankind and will one day rise again to devour all of humanity. It has nothing to do with Lovecraft, that’s why I called you out on it.
Exactly.
I dunno about y'alls, I'm somewhat enjoying it. Granted, if a good manga is a candle-lit dinner with creme brulee for dessert, this is a pizza. But I like me a good pizza.
What, keeping him in esteem? While it's true he was a master on a level all of his own, I think it's fair to refer to the atmospheric genre he created with revel.
Unfortunately I have to agree. Feels like the story is being pulled out of thin air and no explanation is going to save it at this point.
Supernatural or not, I prefer it when there are rules in play. Otherwise we enter into the territory of just making an enemy that has the powers of the author himself. Then it's just a guy writing a story about how he can kill a bunch of characters in his story.
That’s an insult to Lovecraft.
I just don't understand how those people with the skin masks survived for so long.. they've probably turned cannibalistic, but it's still weird.. It might just be some of the new crewwho went mad..
One thing is for sure I'll probably re-read this through a second time, when everything's done. Great scanlation Decadent Descent!
